Επέμβαση καρκίνου Live on Twitter

the robotic surgeon sits at a console that is about 6 feet away from the patient bedside and controls the robotic arms #twor 7:40 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

the robotic surgery is being done at henry ford hospital in detroit and broadcast to vegas, #twor 7:39 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

does any one have any questions regarding robotics or the procedure at hand 6:49 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

the lymph nodes around the iliac vessels, common iliac and in the endopelvic region are removed, both internal and external iliac nodes#twor 6:49 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

in many cases, a complete lymph node dissection can result in cure #twor 6:48 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

The lymph nodes will now be removed. the lymph nodes are important for staging and for assessing prognosis. #twor 6:47 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

the bladder has been successfully removed and placed in a laparoscopic bag that will be removed later #twor 6:46 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

the tumor is large and very vascular, for that reason there are alot of blood vessels around the prostate and bladder #twor 6:00 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

dr guru is dissected the lateral portions of the prostate and apex of the prostate #twor 5:58 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

the robot uses 2 types of lenses 30 degrees (angled scope) and 0 degress (straight scope) #twor 5:54 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

Dr. Guru is know ligating the large veins that lie over the prostate #twor 5:52 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

to date, we have the largest robotic prostatectomy experience world wide #twor 5:52 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

Henry Ford’s large experience with robotic prostatectomy (> 4000 cases) helps us with other robotic procedures, like cystectomy #twor 5:50 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

the prostate will soon be able to be visualized and it will also be removed with the bladder #twor 5:47 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

the anterior attachments of the bladder are now being transected #twor 5:47 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

this is known as an orthotopic urinary diversion or a neo-bladder #twor 5:44 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

for this patient we plan on creating a new bladder constructed from is small intestine #twor 5:40 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

the case is progressing well and we will be moving on the the lymph node dissection next. #twor 5:33 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

we will a large laparoscopic stapler to ligate the vascular pedicle on the left side #twor 5:26 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

we’ve now begun working on the left side of the bladder vascular pedicle #twor 5:22 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

we’ve now reached the inferior of the prostate and are clipping the prostatic vascular supply #twor 5:20 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

We’ve clipped and cut the right ureter and sent the distal end for pathologic analysis #twor 5:16 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

At this point we’ve clipped the right ureter and cut through it #twor 5:15 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

Dr Guru is still working his way through the right pedicle using 12mm Weck Clips #twor 5:12 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

this is a complex case secondary to the large size of the tumor but we are progessing well. #twor 5:01 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

dr guru has started to dissect the vascular supply to the bladder #twor 5:00 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

twittering is one step towards global education and collaboration but must be done carefully so as to avoid mis-information #twor 4:44 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

the posterior dissection for radical cystectomy is much easier with robotic assistance because of better visualization #twor 4:42 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

the lymph node dissection on the left side is starting, dr guru is performing the surgery and dr peabody is moderating #twor 4:38 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

we are entertaining live questions from las vegas #twor 4:36 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

Dr guru is currently dissecting the lateral space along side the bladder and near the pubic bone #twor 4:35 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

we have officially begun live transmission to the IRUS 2009 conference in Las Vegas #twor 4:31 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

@shelisrael we want to expand exposure of medicinal and surgical techniques and explore new uses of technology #twor 4:22 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck in reply to shelisrael

this is the first twitter from an our OR – it is too soon to say if we will continue it. #twor 4:16 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

patient gave consent which included broadcasting, live case demonstration and medical education (twittering would fall under med ed)#twor 4:15 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

@shelisrael The patient gave consent to be a part of the symposium and knows about the broadcast. The pt will not be able to be identified. 4:11 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck in reply to shelisrael

all of our patients receive prophylactic pre-operative antibiotics prior to making an incision, just as we would with open surgery #twor 4:08 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

we have not compared our infection rate in our open cases vs our robotic cases #twor 4:06 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

with robotic surgery we have smaller incisions and less time with an open abdomen, theoretically that may equal less infections #twor 4:05 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

in some cases the robotic time may be faster than a procedure without robotic support because the visualization is so much better #twor 4:02 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

We have dissected the space behind the sigmoid colon to expose the aortic bifurcation and create a space to pass the left ureter #twOR 3:56 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

a robotic radical cystectomy involves removal of the entire bladder and prostate including surrounding lymph nodes #twor 3:29 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

@GregTH this is a 54 year old male with bladder cancer and we are performing a robotic radical cystectomy #twor 3:28 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck in reply to GregTH

In one hour the robotic cystectomy will go live to the Henry Ford Robotic Conference (IRUS 2009) at the Belagio Hotel in Las Vegas #twor 3:20 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

Dr. Peabody is a senior staff urologist and robotic expert from Henry Ford working with Dr. Guru 3:10 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

dr guru has completed the dissection of the the ureter on the left side down to its insertion into the bladder. #twor 3:06 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

this allows for a more complete lymph node dissection #twor 3:04 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

the da vinci s robotic system allows for dissection up to and beyond the the bifurcation of the iliac vessels #twor 3:03 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

Surgical laparoscopic assistance is provided by a resident at the right bedside and a robotic arm on the left side #twor 3:01 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

The stage is T-2 and is invading into the muscle surrounding the bladder #twor 2:56 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

He is currently the Director of Robotics and a senior oncologic surgeon at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo NY #twor 2:55 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

Dr. Guru is one of the world leaders in robotic cystectomy and completed his robotic training at Henry Ford Hospital Urology Institute#twor 2:53 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

we find that visualization and dissection of tissue is enhanced with robotic surgery. this is very helpful for radical bladder surgery #twor 2:52 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

Dr. Guru is now dissecting the lateral pelvic space using the hook electrocautery and bipolar #twor 2:49 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck

@tstitt the davinci s HD system. #twor 2:47 PM Jan 12th from TweetDeck in reply to tstitt
